About Us - Servers

Servers don't just need to be fast, they need to be reliable. Servers don't get a break, they work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year non-stop. This puts a large strain on their components, which is why we only use enterprise class HP ProLiant and Dell PowerEdge server hardware. After all, a fast site that only works part of the time is even worse than a slow site that works all of the time.

All of our servers are rack mounted and equipped with heavy duty power supplies that can take the strain of running 24/7.
The server grade RAM we use in all of our servers automatically detects and corrects any anomalies found using the built in Error Correcting Code (ECC) technology.

Hard drive failures are a big problem with cheap servers; desktop hard drives aren't designed for constant use and so wear out much quicker than expected. This is why we make sure that we only use server class hard disks, so you know that you data is in safe hands and always available.

About Us - Data Centre

Having the best hardware money can buy and a high speed network to keep everything connected will get you nowhere if you can't keep your infrastructure powered on and running cool. What's more, with all the sensitive data stored on the hard drives, you need to be sure that they are physically safe.

This is why we house our servers at the enterprise grade BlueSquare data centre in Maidenhead. This provides us with N+1 UPS and generator protected power from on-site multi-megawatt substations, as well as N+1 redundant Airedale cooling systems to keep the entire data centre technical area at a constant temperature of 22 degrees Celsius (+/- 2 degrees).

To make sure that we don't have all of our eggs in one basket, we also have a presence in the Kent Science Park F25 facility as well as the brand new M247 Trafford Park data centre in Manchester.

At Freethought Internet, we recognise that it is important that your servers are connected to the internet 24x7 by a fast network that can deliver the high throughput, low latency connectivity that is required in today's interconnected world.

This is why we have built AS41000, our own, resilient BGP network powered by a gigabit backbone with BlueSquare's Maidenhead data centres at the very heart.

We use HP ProCurve switches throughout the network in order to ensure the fast delivery of every last packet of data with reliable hardware from an established and trusted brand. All routing is performed by dedicated Mikrotik RouterOS software running on dedicated, mutli-gigabit network hardware.

With multiple upstream providers as well as geographically diverse fibre paths back to physically separate London data centres owned by two independent companies, we have taken every precaution possible in order to ensure that AS41000's connection to the internet is completely redundant for maximum reliability.
